This is the perfect way for students to have real experience working in horticulture before they decide to take it up for their career. The voluntary internship gives students the opportunity to work in a prestigious garden while learning gardening skills and techniques. Students work alongside experienced gardeners so they can train while they work. Much can be gained by being observant whilst being taught by our skilled garden staff.
How it works
The internships have now been running for several years and many previous participants are now making their way into horticultural careers, and some are even coming back to the RHS as fully fledged gardeners.
Every year a limited number of unwaged placements are available at RHS Garden Rosemoor, in Devon, for horticultural students seeking short-term (one to three months) work experience to supplement their studies.
These placements are very popular and are often filled up to nine months in advance. Applications, however, can be made at any time of the year. Please ensure if you have any preferences for departments you include this on your application.
Please note: the scheme at Wisley is currently under review; however we hope to have this opportunity available again soon.
Study for RHS qualifications
If you want to take your love of horticulture to the next level, the RHS has a range of courses to open up new horizons once qualified.
