Get set to grow this May half-term with garden-themed family fun at Harlow Carr.

Kids can get hands-on at our Children’s Gardening Weekend (25 – 26 May 2019) and the whole family can enjoy a seasonal garden trail and Get Set, Grow activities running throughout the week (25 May – 2 June 2019).


Children’s Gardening Weekend (25 – 26 May)

Watch children’s entertainers, the Garden Detectives, perform throughout the weekend on the main lawn.

Get hands-on in the activities marquee 11am – 4pm:

  • Pot up a tomato plant with Plant Heritage – take it home and watch it grow!
  • Hunt for orchids with the Harrogate Orchid Society
  • Learn how to make your garden butterfly friendly with Butterfly Conservation
  • Sow sweet peas with the National Sweet Pea Society – take home and enjoy all summer
  • Join the Harrogate and Ripon Beekeepers Association for candle making and demonstrations at the beehives
  • Make your own bird feeder to encourage birds to your garden

Craft workshops:

Garden detectives:

Enjoy storytelling, poetry and rhymes with the Garden Detectives

Birds of prey demonstrations:
Meet the birds 10am – 3pm
Flying shows at 11am and 1pm
